This is a great opportunity for new and returning students to try different classes!
Join us for the special 3-week holiday session. Each class will be like a mini-workshop where we will explore a different theme, style and dance skills!

Sunday Dec 8 "Saidi & Raqs al Assaya," 12:00p - 2:00p.
Egyptian Saidi and stick dance. The Saidi rhythm and dance style of Upper Egypt (southern Egypt) are among the most joyous and popular at shows and celebrations. Energetic steps, dynamic hip articulation and nuanced movements are the hallmarks of these dances, along with the acrobatic maneuvers of the stick used in both the men's and women's version of raqs al assaya. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
Arab and Persian folk dances from the Persian Gulf. These dance style from opposite sides of Khaleej Fars or Persian Gulf, share nearly identical steps, but each has a different flavor of movements and music. In this compare-and-contrast workshop, you will learn steps used in both dances as well as steps that are unique to each dance. Then you will explore the music and movement flavors of both dances that demonstrate each dance's distinct style. Suitable for all ages and abilities.

Multi-level, 10 week session
4p - 4:45p Kids Persian Dance
Children learn the technique and flavors of diverse dance styles of Iran through story-telling, choreography and improvisation. With a focus on age-appropriate technique and concepts, students learn universal dance skills through the cultural dance vocabulary of modern and traditional Persian dance forms. Children develop discipline, creative thinking, coordination, balance and physical fitness. As they progress in their skills, students may have the opportunity to participate in performances.

This multi-level, low-impact dance fitness
program derives movements and music from vast cultural sources and offers
infinite variety! Learn
technique and dance skills in a fun, easy-to-follow format as you tone core
muscles, improve flexibility, balance and coordination. Each class builds on
basic skills culminating in fun drills and choreographed sequences.
6:30p - 7:25p Persian Dance
Multi-level, 10 week session
Learn upper body fluidity,
delicate hand and arm movements, along with expressive movements and energetic
steps of modern dance styles associated with Iran, the country formerly known
as Persia. While gaining flexibility,
core balance, and improved posture, students learn about the diverse dances,
music and culture of Iran. From a foundation rooted in classical Persian dance
technique, students explore the diverse flavors of social, folk and character
7:30p - 8:25p Egyptian Raqs
Multi-level, 10 weeks
Students work on developing a performance repertoire to include Golden-Era classics, folkloric favorites and modern Cairo style for the stage. The goal of these classes is to develop a strong foundation of movements for a variety of Egyptian dance styles. With a focus on proper posture, alignment, and technique, students explore variations and concepts of rhythmic hip accents, fluid body movements and graceful arms. Activities include fun drills, choreographed sequences and exploring musicality and self-expression. Students may also have the opportunity to learn choreography and performance skills. While designed for students with less than one year of dance experience, all levels of students will continue to improve their skills. Ballet shoes required.

“Ghassemabadi”/Gilaki Iranian folkloric dance, Jan 7 – Feb 11 Become familiar with the distinct flavor of this fun and popular dance from Northern Iran. Learn the story of the dance through choreography and develop group performance skills as well as intricate stage patterns, turns and floor work. Ballet shoes and knee pads required.
"Laylot Hob" Egyptian Classic, Feb 18 - Mar 25
Expand your movement vocabulary, enhance your knowledge of Arab dance styles and improve your performance with a more diverse repertoire. The goal of this class is to develop solo performance skills through an Egyptian Raqs Sharqi classic choreography. Fast-paced and challenging, students will work on developing an understanding of the the lyrics, music, and legendary dancers of the Golden-Era Egyptian belly dance. Ballet shoes required.

Middle Eastern Music Essentials♬, Jan 8-Feb 12
Students will we explore the music, dance and cultures of this rich and colorful region. We will analyze music for choreography and performance, and become familiar with the different flavors of the instruments and rhythms through the proper vocabulary of Middle Eastern music, culture and geography.
Rhythm & Raqs Ensemble♬, Feb 19-Mar 26
From the perspective of dance and music as a community experience, students learn percussion and dance as a performance ensemble. With a strong foundation in cultural context, students explore popular rhythms and basic techniques for playing finger cymbals and doumbek or tabla, the Arabic drum. Other instruments may also be incorporated.
