Katayoun

Katayoun is an educator, a dancer, a mom and the founder of Mosaïque Language & Cultural Arts. She enjoyed eight successful years as a language teacher for a prestigious private school, working primarily with young children. In this role she developed comprehensive and unique French language programs that kept her students stimulated, entertained and challenged. Her diverse background includes graduate coursework at the University of Virginia, 10 years in the classroom and 20 years in the performing arts.

Drawing from her wide range of experiences, Katayoun has developed a multi-dimensional approach to education, adapting to varied skill levels, abilities and learning styles for children and adults of all ages. Whether in the classroom or the dance studio, she simultaneously implements many learning modalities which speak to each student as an individual, one with unique needs, perspectives and goals.

Katayoun has taught Middle Eastern Dance to adults and children since 1999. She has shared the dances and culture of her Persian heritage and their Arab neighbors in numerous educational and social events in the community. A master instructor, choreographer and professional performer, she has directed, produced and performed in theatrical and multi-cultural events in the Northern Virginia area since 2002. In 2007, she co-founded Tiraz Dance Network, A Middle Eastern Dance Collaborative, and remains active in fulfilling its mission and values. In addition she began a Mentoring Program for dance instructors to encourage teaching standards and breadth of knowledge within the Middle Eastern Dance community.

Katayoun believes in continuing education and advancement no matter your age or experience. She encourages others to pursue challenging interests which present opportunities for improvement and self-actualization, ultimately leading to a more joyful and fulfilling life. It is her belief that a broader understanding of language, culture and movement will not only enhance the individual but our society as a whole.
